Stitchcraft Freebie: Scarlet Berry Jumper

Hey peeps!  I’m on a roll with the July 1949 edition of Stitchcraft Magazine, as this is the third pattern I’ve posted from it as of late.  (Twin Set & Classic Cabled Cardigan).  Rachel of Jacobite Rose gave this jumper a shoutout and so I decided to post this one up as well.  (There’s even one more I’d love to post up too from the same booklet!)

Did you know Rachel just started to post up free knitting patterns on her website also?!

Today’s knitting pattern is for the Scarlet Berry Jumper on the right hand side:

While this is a very pretty pattern, I have to say I don’t think I would ever make this with the bobble stitches in there.  I’ve made bobbles before and while I love the way they look, I hate knitting them.  I would gladly make this jumper up all plain instead.  I can see one in every color of the rainbow and it would make for a great base to employ some embroidery on.

This jumper calls for a heavier weight fingering yarn, with a gauge of 7.5 sts per inch and 10 rows per inch.  The pattern is written for a 33-35 inch bust.

One major note about the pattern is that it is knit in reverse stockinette, or purl side is on the right side.  While this would really make the bobbles pop, if I knit this I would just make it in stockinette instead (right side is all knit stitches).  I’m not a huge fan of having the purls on the right side of the fabric.

Other Updates:

As you guys may have guessed (since I was raving about it and have also posted up some fabric swatches) I’ll be sewing along with Gertie come October 1st to make her new coat pattern, Butterick 5824.  What this means for you guys?!  Well, I’m going to be on the hunt for some chic, coordinating winter accessories to pair with my coat so you can expect to see some of my favorite accessory patterns popping up on here in the near future.

But I do know that we’re nearing sweater-weather in the Northern Hemisphere so for a while I’ll also start to post up some snuggly, long sleeved knits.

*Sorry on the delay of this post.*  I like to post up the knitting patterns on Fridays but I realized I had forgotten to upload the pdf pattern before leaving the house in the morning.  *Ugh*  I felt quite dumb as soon as I realized.  Ahhh well… Hope all you had a great weekend.
