Flea Market Finds

For Mother’s Day this year, I decided to wake up super early and accompany my mom to our local flea market and we had a ball.

I had to wake up at 5:45am which is extremely early for me in order to drive down to my mom’s to get there for the opening at 7am.  We have to go right when it opens since all the good stuff gets bought up, otherwise for us, it’s not worth going.  It was the first time this year that either of us had gone to the flea and the weather was so beautiful.  I think this has spurred us on to going to other flea markets in the area this year.

My mom and I went out for breakfast afterward and then I hung out at home-home (different than my current-home) for the remainder of the day.  She took me on a tour of her garden updates which includes a veggie garden I’m envious about as well as a new family of foxes living next door.  And then I had to go through a bunch of old boxes of my childhood mementos to sort out what I wanted and what I didn’t want.  It seems my mom is also on the spring-cleaning band wagon.  :) But it also means that we found lots of old notions that will be added to my stash.  (More on that in the next few days).

But without further ado, here’s the goodies I found at the flea.

Everything I bought all came from the same vendor.  It was a guy who seemed to have just brought a bunch of random boxes from an estate sale.  There was no organization whatsoever and it was a bit difficult to find stuff.  But in rifling through a box of papers and magazines I found these.

It’s a set of catalogs from the 50’s and early 60’s.  The have some wonderful images inside and cute details on all the dresses.  I’ll probably end up scanning them in for you all at some future point.

This is a small square tablecloth we found in a box that only had linens.

My mom and I initially had a whole armful of stuff and we asked the vendor “how much”.  He told us $30 and wouldn’t budge on it.  So we ended up re-assessing and putting back two tablecloths.  And then asked him again.  We insisted we put stuff back and then he went down to $15!!!  “Mooohahaha”  We couldn’t imagine those two table cloths we put back were $15 together and ended up getting a really good on our lot.  So this was the one tablecloth that I kept.

I also found some fabric.  Weeee!

The one on the left is a putty-grey cotton chintz.  There’s at least 2.5 yards (perhaps even 3.5 yrds) of it and I can’t wait to make something out of it.  The cotton fabric on the right, by mom found and asked if I wanted.  Which I most certainly did.  It’s probably only enough for a summer top, but it’s so cute.  Don’t you think?

I’m really happy we went to the flea market on Sunday.  I kept seeing people online and what fab finds they were getting at their respective fleas that I felt like I was missing out.  Silly right?!  Anyhow, my mom and I both love a good deal and you can be sure we’ll be going to the flea several more times this season.

I am curious, do you guys have flea markets in your respective areas that you shop at?  Or do you do thrift store shopping instead?
