Fall Inspiration Board

I was too pooped out last night to do much sewing, so I don’t have the second part of my fitting post for you guys today.  Hope you’re not too disappointed.  If you are I hope this post takes the edge off.  :)

I decided to back track a bit and actually show you my Fall 2011 inspiration board.  I’m planning on building one more after this, but instead of inspiration images it will be populated with my fall project images (pattern covers, fabric photos, etc.).

Fall 2011 Inspiration Board:

I love vintage style, but I have a tendency to mix a little bit of modern in with my vintage.  This fall I’ve been quite influenced by the 40’s as you may have guessed.  I’m not a huge fan of the boxy shoulders, but I do love the art deco era of clothes with their geometry and sharp, crisp lines.  But instead of being influenced by couture fashion from the 40’s, I’m more interested in the collegiate and working-girl style of this era.  As a result, I’m planning on incorporating a lot of separates into my wardrobe.

One of my favorite actresses of this era is Katharine Hepburn.  She has such a strong personality, that no matter how feminine her clothes may have been her personality shines right through.  This image is one of my favorite images that I found of her and I think it speaks volumes: Katharine knitting in trousers.

For this fall/winter I’m planning on a navy, winter-white, mustard, burgundy color scheme.  It’s classically-autumn isn’t it?!  So far I’m planning on some 40’s pleated skirts, cable-knit sweater along with other knits, bow details, a little swing jacket, and an assortment of dresses.

Sounds like a ton doesn’t it….  Well, like I said before, I have a tendency to bite off more than I can chew which is why I’m not setting a hard deadline for myself this time around.  And I’m imagining that these lofty plans will most likely take me from the fall and on into winter.

Hope you all are having a lovely week.  Oh and if you’re interested in the sources of any of these images, you can pretty much find them all in my pinterest account.
