Update: Giveaway is now Closed.
Hello dear readers! My new site has been live for a week now, so I thought it high time to offer you a little something.
As someone who never experimented with hair or makeup until well after high school, I still feel like a novice in the way of ‘beauty regimen.’ I sported very cropped hair and only wore mascara and lip gloss; on my fancy days I’d attempt some liquid eyeliner.
I started wearing makeup on a more normal routine only after I got married (just a coincidence). As such, I am far from being an expert – but I’ve since learned what I like and what I don’t like and I now have some preferred products.
My first main question before I click ‘buy’ is: Is this item tested on animals? I want to invest in quality makeup – with a clear conscience. I have my little furry bunnies to consider.
That being said – I do have older products still in rotation that were animal tested. :( I told myself that the damage was already done and I can only look ahead to make smarter decisions. It’s sad that I can no longer by MAC lipsticks and eyeshadows – but its a sacrifice I’m happy to make.
Over my holiday break this past year, I went and bought myself a beauty and glamour book called: Your Beauty Mark, The Ultimate Guide to Eccentric Glamour by Dita Von Teese.
I don’t really ‘buy in’ to any celebrity lifestyle stuff, but this book seemed like a fun read and I do love vintage glamour.
I went and read this book cover to cover – saving the chapters on hair and styling to the very end – as that was what I was most keen on reading. I love saving the best for last.
Nearly ever couple of pages has a full image spread of Dita and they’re lovely. Her makeup and styling are always on point and it was a fun read.
Her book has a lot of interesting tidbits of advice. One of them that stuck with me is: eyebrows are sisters, not twins. And the same thing applies to eye-makeup. Of course I try to get them as close as possible – but it was still nice to hear.
I will never have enough (or make enough) time in the day to spend hours grooming myself. Dita’s lifestyle is such that her appearance is a high priority – mine isn’t as much.
I like to leave the house looking put together of course, but it’s not my number one priority.
But… her book did have me rushing up the stairs to try my hand at half-moon manicures. With some extra holiday money, I was able to splurge on a new hot roller set, as I’ve never tried that yet with my hair.
Dita’s book has me wanting to experiment more, play with my style, and take some time for me.
So what is this giveaway now??? you may be asking.
I’m giving away a copy of Dita Von Teese’s book: Your Beauty Mark to one lucky reader!
Aaaannnd!!! Along with the book you will receive a $25 gift card to Sephora.
I figured the book is all well and great – but would be best coupled with a beauty purchase of your liking as well.

I’ve had this book in my Amazon wishlist for a long time! I love the idea of classic, everyday glamour, I think it is definitely missing in our fast-paced, casual, modern world!
Thanks for the giveaway.
That book looks awesome! Fingers crossed for the win…
That book looks really awesome! Have to admit that I’m a total makeup addict — I love trying new things and experimenting.
Love the new look of your site, btw! It’s really clean and fresh looking. :)
ooh! This book looks so inspiring! I wish I could be more glamorous in my everyday too. I am getting better at having 2 similar cat eyes with my black liner… But I would like to learn more hair techniques, my répertoire is quite small for now… I would love to own that book!
Last November decided to really fine tune my makeup regiment for a more pulled together look, plus my job now requires that makeup be worn.
Didn’t know of Dita’s book.
Thanks, enjoy your blog and reading about your gardening.
That book is awesomely huge! I’m one of the only people I know that still likes books.
Would love this! I’m just starting to try playing a little more with hair and makeup (just turned 30) and I feel totally lost.
I love Sephora’s free rewards lipsticks. It’s great to be able to try things out before buying. I’d love to enter the giveaway.
I’m making this entry because I am thinking Lady Fate brought me to you. I was looking to learn what I could about the book and “dropped by” your site. I then noticed you are a fellow seamstress…and into vintage, Only then did I notice the giveaway, and that it was actually active NOW. That’s just too many coincidences…So I am entering, and bookmarking you.. Thank you for the opportunity!
Oh, I’d love to win this book for my mom!
This is such a great giveaway! Dita is gorgeous, to be sure, so I’m sure we can all learn lots of things from her book :) Congrats on the blogging milestone!
I tweeted the giveaway :) https://twitter.com/ShowandTellMeg/status/831971101353861138
What a fun book! I go through phases with makeup, wearing it or not, but I always love to look at vintage glamour, especially Dita’s! I’m with you on focusing on products that are not tested on animals, and I personally try to find things that have more natural ingredients where possible, too! Thanks for the giveaway, Liz!
Looks like a great book!
This book looks great! Even if I don’t win I think I’m going to have to pick it up :)
Wow! What a great giveaway! Pick me! Pick me!
In Australia, so not entering, but the book looks great! And I’m with you – the first question I always want answers to is a products cruelty free status.
Your site looks fantastic! And it’s kind of you to hold a giveaway. I’m pretty low maintenance with my makeup, but I am looking to up my game. Who better to consult than Dita?
I borrowed this from the library, but I’d love to own it! Thanks for the giveaway!
Looks like an awesome giveaway! Thanks for sharing! Blog also shared on Facebook. ?
Love your style and your blog! I’ve been a long-time fan of Dita’s and your gift card will be spent on cruelty free products! (+ Just tweeted your site on @wannabegan!)
This is a hefty book too! It tickles me when I encounter a book which has even a partial goal as a guidebook that keeps in mind detailed pictures while not having to use a magnifying glass to see is an important feature! I’m going to do an interlibrary loan of this asap! Thanks :)
I love Dita! I’ve seen this book, but never got to look at it. It’d be great to win!
Oh, that book is going on my library list :) Are those the Pacifica lipsticks? Are you pleased with them? I’ve been eying them but haven’t committed yet.
So cool, thanks! I’m dreadful at eyeliner and so wish I could pull off a perfect cats eye. Maybe Ditawill have the words of wisdom I need? Certainly, better products from Sephora wouldn’t hurt either!
I used to use hot rollers a lot in high school but stopped when I grew my hair out. I should get them out now that it’s short-ish again.
Would love to read that book, I could see myself reading it before going to bed and thank you Liz for the giveaway!
I have also shared your page on my Facebook account with my friends ;)
I’ve met Dita once and she’s just as beautiful as pictures and a lovely person to boot. I completely understand not being able to get dolled up every day – my job doesn’t allow me that luxury – but I love being able to dress up for me on the weekends. Your hair scarf is so cute!
Looks like a GREAT book – would love to take a look! I also shared your post on Twitter (@MmMmspa347)

Love the look and the book looks interesting ! I’m still working on my look. Always on going.
Dita is definitely perfect for glamour inspiration! I go through phases where I love the ritual of a made-up face, but sometimes it also feels nice to be lazy. But there certainly is a wonderful feeling I get wearing a bright red lipstick!
