December 12

December Giveaway Day

Back in May I pre-ordered my copy of A Stitch in Time, Volume 2.  And in a moment of delight, I decided to order a second book in order for a mega-giveaway for the holiday season, as a little Christmas gift from me to you.  :)

As it turns out December 12th is SewMamaSew’s semi-annual giveaway day, so I thought what better than to invite everyone to join in and celebrate the gift-giving season.

While I haven’t been blogging for a full year yet (1 year in January), I feel amazed at how kind and supportive you all have been over the past year.  Many of you have left so many nice, thoughtful comments and I’m happy to have been able to meet you through the blogosphere.

So as a little Christmas thank you, I’m giving away this amazing knitting book that I just received in the mail:

I do realize most of you are sewers, but many of you have posted about wanting to learn how to knit or even about taking the plunge into vintage knits.  Either way, if you dream of knitting some day or are a seasoned pro, you all are welcome to enter to win this book.

I don’t think I need to say this, but for the record: To be fair to everyone, please refrain from trying to win this book if you’re planning on re-gifting it.

To enter for your chance to win this book:

  • All you have to do is leave me a comment about the one thing you’re looking forward to this holiday season.

Myself: I’m currently looking forward to giving my husband his Christmas gifts as well as having a week off of work which I will most likely be spending revamping my sewing room/dining room with a new coat of paint and decoration.

The winner will be chosen at random on December 16th and I will announce the winner shortly thereafter.  This giveaway is open to anyone no matter where you live.  I’m happy to ship anywhere for you guys.

Good luck everyone!  And I hope you’re having a lovely holiday season so far.

Oh, and be sure to swing by Sew Mama Sew’s site; there are tons of giveaways taking place all over so be sure to check them out.

  1. Wendy / Dec 12 2011

Our family is quite widespread so what I’m looking forward to most is spending time with them. Thanks for a great give away!

  2. Lisa C. / Dec 12 2011

I’m really excited to see my brother who I haven’t seen since last Christmas! His teensy one eyed chihuahua, Fiona, is coming to stay with us and I can’t wait! It will be the first time she meets my long haired dachshund, Lily and I imagine terrible cuteness will ensue. Also looking forward to food, of course :)

  3. Amy / Dec 12 2011

I’m really looking forward to rewatching my favourite Christmas movie: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. And going for a long drive to checkout the Christmas lights!

  4. Ashley0107 / Dec 12 2011

Yay, Christmas giveaway! :D I’m looking forward to going home. I haven’t been home since my brothers birthday in September, so I’m really missing everybody.
On a cheerier note, I’m also looking forward to doing some Christmassy baking :) Mince pies, gingerbread, and Stollen. Nom!
    Ashley x

  5. Annabelle / Dec 12 2011

I’m looking forward to my Ukrainian Christmas Eve – it’s the best part of Christmas. We gather at my grandparents’ house when the first star comes out. My grandpa leads us “Silent Night”, first in English, then in Ukrainian. After, we enjoy my favorite meal – varenyky, borsch, holuptsi and fish!

  6. MJ / Dec 12 2011

I am really looking forward to watching my kids open their presents, they are 2 and almost 4, so they are really getting the idea of this Christmas & Santa thing and that’s so exciting to me. They are so grateful for everything they get and have not a care in the world.

  7. Nicole / Dec 12 2011

I’m looking forward to the time we spend getting ready for the holidays, decorating with the kids, shopping with just my husband, baking cookies and chasing everyone away from them. That’s what I love about the holidays

  8. Paunnet / Dec 12 2011

YAY! Thank you so much for this awesome giveaway! I saw this book a few days ago when you featured it and I fell in love. I was going to order it, but how awesome would it be to win it?
What I’m looking forward to the most is the traditional Christmas lunch at my grandma: the whole family (about 30 people) gets together and eats a delicious home cooked meal.

  9. Corinne / Dec 12 2011

When the first Stitch in Time came out I could not wait to get my copy, love it. I didn’t realize until recently Vol 2 was out. What an amazing compilation these books are. Because this Christmas is a difficult one for our family, my only wish is that we can honor the holiday for its purpose, the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Who ever wins your generous gift will be thrilled if they knit or need inspiration to learn. Happy Christmas to you as well.

  10. greta / Dec 12 2011

I am looking forward to time away from work that allows me to spend time at home with family and friends.

Thanks for the giveaway hope I win!

  11. Gill / Dec 12 2011

I’m looking forward to having all my children home for Christmas!
    Thanks for a great giveaway!

  12. Charlotte / Dec 12 2011

I’m looking forward to the food – my fondue pot is at its ready. And time for knitting and spinning, of course. :)

  13. Limor / Dec 12 2011

I’m most looking forward to meeting my new niece. She was born in August, but lives far away from us. It’ll be so nice to have my entire family together this holiday season.

  14. marie / Dec 12 2011

i am looking forward to having some time to work on a pullower for my husband.

  15. Heather in Oregon / Dec 12 2011

This is a very exciting giveaway! I am looking forward to the increasing anticipation of my children. Despite the fact that we do very few gifts and those are mainly handmade, they still think Yule is the greatest thing ever.

  16. Ms.Cleaver (Leah) / Dec 12 2011

I’m looking forward to hosting Christmas dinner for the first time!

  17. Jane / Dec 12 2011

Ooh, lovely! I love everything about the holidays, but especially the music! I can’t wait to hear a concert, Blue Heron, this weekend!

  18. Steph / Dec 12 2011

I’m looking forward to spending time with my whole family. There’ll be 14 of us at the table talking completely rubbish and having a fantastic time. I honestly can’t wait!

Thanks for the great giveaway – I love all the designs in this book!

  19. lorraine / Dec 12 2011

i was looking forward to getting a live tree and its been a week now and it smells like heaven in my living room! :)

  20. Sarah / Dec 12 2011

What a gorgeous book! I’m most looking forward to getting married! My fiance and I are tying the knot on the 29th of December :)

  21. Emily / Dec 12 2011

I also run data and statistics all day long, so I’m looking forward to NOT doing that for a few days this holiday season! Thanks for the giveaway! :)

  22. Faith / Dec 12 2011

I’m looking forward to my first married Christmas – it’s only a month (to the day!) since we got married and it will be lovely to have our first Christmas just us together :) And I’m also looking forward to getting Vol. 1 of A Stitch in Time which was on my Christmas list, heheh.

    • Liz / Dec 12 2011

Congrats on your one month! I’ve been married 2 years now and it’s gone by in a flash. Those first few months are so much fun (and continue to be as the years go on.) :)
Stitch in Time Vol. 1 is amazing also. I love all of the one piece undergarments they have; they seem so warm and toasty.

  23. Lauria / Dec 12 2011

I’m a theatrical stage manager. Every year I have a show at Christmas and it’s usually a busier show schedule than most so that we can help make other people’s Christmas memories. But you can get burnt out on Christmas pretty fast. One way to keep it going is to have some kind of fun! We’re doing a secret snowflake gift exchange. (Very much like Secret Santa except all denominations can participate without feeling slighted!) For a few days leading up to the unwrap, everyone does something nice for their snowflake. Decorates their dressing station, gets them some tea, a favorite snack! With it, they may leave a little hint about their identity. Then on the final day of performances, they have to guess who their swap partner is before they open their presents! It usually leads to a fun atmosphere and lots of giggling and guessing.

    • Liz / Dec 12 2011

That sounds like so much fun!

My mom suggested going out to dinner on Christmas Eve, for ease. But I can’t help but think all of the people working at resturants (gas stations, grocery stores, etc) would rather be home with their families also. Mega kudos to you for wanting to make other’s Christmas memories special! It’s very sweet of you.

  24. Lauren / Dec 12 2011

i actually looked this book up as soon as you posted about it – as i’ve said before, i’m learning how to knit (and i’m about to complete my first scarflette! just got to learn how to knit the buttonholes tomorrow ;)) and i CANNOT WAIT to make me some knitted clothes. that book looks fabulous, but it’s a bit cost-prohibitive for my current budget. this is a seriously generous giveaway. wow.

i am looking forward to giving gifts this christmas – i can’t wait to wrap mine (i make myself hold off until i have them all purchased and then i do a big solo wrapping party & watch crappy movies! yay wrapping! lol), i can’t wait to GIVE them. i am most excited about my boyfriend’s gift – i bought him the negroni pattern, and a giant gift certificate for our local fabric store. i hope he loves it :) also hope he’s not reading this comment lol.

also, this is totally selfish but i’m excited about the days *after* christmas so i can finally go out & buy all that fabric i’ve been eyeballing for the past month. i won’t buy myself anything before christmas, but after christmas is a free-for-all as far as i’m concerned :)

    • Liz / Dec 12 2011

That’s not selfish at all! I find that it’s more and more difficult to put together a Christmas list each year because my ‘likes’ are so specific; I mean who can put ‘2 yards of X fabric from Y store’ on their wish list without confusion?! heh

I wish I could make my husband a shirt. He still doesn’t want me to make him anything… I bet your bf will love the Negroni. Who doesn’t want a custom-made shirt that would fit perfectly?! Well, besides my crazy husband of course. heh

  25. Andrea / Dec 12 2011

What a great giveaway – thanks Liz! The one thing I’m looking forward to the most is spending Christmas with my dad and two siblings. We live in different continents and this will be the first time in 20 years all of us are together for Christmas.

    • Liz / Dec 12 2011

WOW That’s amazing! I bet its going to be an amazing Christmas for you. :)

  26. Victoria Moss / Dec 12 2011

I’ve been hearing about the book, and would be thrilled to have it!

I’m looking forward to a quiet time with family – it’s been a crazy autumn, and a bit of peace and time to visit up will be much welcomed!

  27. Jane / Dec 12 2011

I am looking forward to two weeks off work – finally catching up with some sewing and spending lots ot time with family and friends. I’m also hoping to get some board game sessions in – there never seems to be enough time normally and the children love the

  28. Emma / Dec 12 2011

Most of all, I’m looking forward to celebrating my December holiday. We recently moved abroad, so sad as it may sound to some, we don’t have any family obligations. That’s a bit of a relief because those obligations involve a religion I haven’t been a part of for 14 years, so this is the first time things are truly done my way and to top it we’ve found a small religious community to celebrate with near our new home.

  29. Tawny / Dec 12 2011

Every year on Christmas Eve we watch It’s a Wonderful Life and I do a Christmas jigsaw puzzle. We always try to stay up as late as it takes to get the puzzle done (but usually end up snoozing around 2 in the morning with some pieces left to finish in the morning). I am SO looking forward to that this year!

  30. Sherri S. / Dec 12 2011

I’m looking forward to being able to just…not do anything much. Life is so busy these days, isn’t it? My husband and I are going to read books, snooze, go for walks, and snuggle by our new gas fireplace! Ahhh…not yet though; another 10 days of harried activity to go! Thanks for the giveaway; this looks like a really cool book I’ve not yet seen.

  31. Kristin / Dec 12 2011

I can’t wait to sit down and do some cozy pre-holiday crafting with friends, and after that I get a lovely train ride to my parents’ house and at least a week with my family!

  32. Annie / Dec 12 2011

I actually saw an advance copy of this book at a show, before it went on sale … it really is wonderful :D

I was looking forward to having my darling hubby home for two whole weeks over Christmas and New Year, but now his second week of leave has been cancelled I’m looking on the bright side and shall catch up on lots of sewing, knitting and reading in all that unexpected me-time.

  33. Katy / Dec 12 2011

  39. Kristen / Dec 12 2011

YAY! what a giveaway! I am looking forward to going home to friends, family, and our kitties! Living in the UK proved to expensive to bring them over from home, so my amazing mother is taking care of them …I suspect they love her more than us by now!

We’re moving into a new house for Christmas, I’m really excited for the kids to each have their own room!

I’m looking forward to so much this Christmas! Giving my little ones their handmade gifts – fleece dino hats for my two boys and a soft minky lovey for my baby girl! Carols, peppermint hot chocolate! Turkey dinner! Decorating the tree tonight! Remembering Jesus’ birth in all.

  42. Courtney / Dec 12 2011

I don’t know how to knit, but my mum does. I am hoping if I give her something like this for Christmas, she will be inspired to knit me stuff!

Also, I am looking forward to actually getting to spend time with her this Christmas. We currently live on oppose sides of the US so we don’t get to see each other all that often.

  47. Jen / Dec 12 2011

There are so many things I am looking forward to this holiday season, but the single most important one is my dear little boy having no school and getting to spend all day with him, like we used to when he was younger. I can’t wait.
This is a great giveaway, thank you for the chance to win it. I have been trying to learn how to knit. Right now it’s more of a teach myself thing because no one I know knits. Thank goodness for the internet and all the talented people who blog!

  57. Jamie / Dec 12 2011

Is it bad to say that I love all the prep more than the actual day? I have loved crafting and decorating with my kids and am looking forward to shifting to cookie and candy making, but the day itself can be a little overwhelming for me. That book looks incredible, what a find!

  61. Kat / Dec 12 2011

I’m excited for a week off work as well, but I think it won’t exactly be relaxing. We live in DC and will be traveling to Arizona and all over Utah to see my husband’s family. He gets to stay out west because he’s off from school, and I have to go back for a big work conference in Italy! Exciting, definitely, but probably exhausting. I will definitely be getting a lot of knitting done. Thank you for the giveaway!

I am looking forward to waking up on Christmas morning with my family and have our relaxed Christmas morning breakfast.

What a neat looking book! Thank you so much for sharing it. :)

What I’m looking forward to most is just being with my own family, also my parents and my sister and her prince charming. We’re so busy that it seems like we have trouble all being in the same place at the same time, so being together at Christmas is extra-special.

  67. Jessie / Dec 12 2011

I am so looking forward to family coming to visit! I’m also looking forward to giving away many hand made gifts this year. I too am doing a giveaway if your interested.

  71. Amy / Dec 13 2011

    • Liz / Dec 13 2011

Thanks for your lovely comment. Sorry to hear your copy arrived damaged, I’m on Susan’s ravelry group and she’s been wonderful about responding to everyone and issuing replacements, etc. Glad she was able to help you get a new copy. Merry Christmas!

This holiday season I’m looking forward to moving back to my home country after living in France for 1,5 years! It has been an adventure out here but it will be lovely to return home, to a place I love.

I’m looking forward to a holiday in Bangkok with my family. Hoping that the floodwaters have completely subsided and that life is back to normal for the people there. Thank you for so generously hosting this giveaway for such a lovely book.

  78. Nicole / Dec 13 2011

When I saw this book, it made me want to try knitting again (I’ve tried unsuccessfully several times- i finally figure it out, but then the moment I set it down, it all goes away- i should really take a class). However, for what I am excited about this Christmas, is being home with family for Christmas. We currently live about 7000 miles apart, so it’s nice to be able to see everyone. Now only if I could get rid of the jetlag and waking up at 4 AM.

  79. Claudia / Dec 13 2011

I’m looking forward to the family reunion…it’s the best tradition we have.
Thank you for the wonderful gift you give to us.
    Kind regards from Germany

  80. Btoten / Dec 13 2011

I am looking forward to spending all the extra time with my kids. With work and school and whatnot, I feel like we are just rushing through the days at times. It is nice to be able to slow down for more than a day or two.
I am also excited because Santa is getting one of my kids a sewing machine and the others are getting other crafty things. So it will be nice teaching them and them having fun while learning important crafts that seem to be getting lost in society today

    • Liz / Dec 13 2011

I feel as though I’m rushing through each day also, talking about burning the candle at both ends… Hope you do find some nice relaxation time in there somewhere and YAY to teaching your kids how to sew. How much fun they will have!

  81. Kaye Prince / Dec 13 2011

My Mum and I have a tradition whereby we eat all kinds of junk food and appetizer-type foods while watching White Christmas (my favourite Christmas movie!) and drinking Bailey’s on Christmas Eve – that is what I’m most looking forward too! Also having a couple of extra days off work will be nice too ;)

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  82. didyoumakethat / Dec 13 2011

Ooh, I’d love a copy of this book. I’m looking forward to staying in what I hope will be a lovely B&B and having lots of fun and laughs with my boyfriend, family and friends. Thank you!

  89. Casey / Dec 13 2011

What a generous giveaway!!! :D Please enter me…

I think what I’m most looking forward to, as cliche as this sounds, is having time with my immediate family over Christmas. No more 12 hour drives from Florida means we have more time with everyone and don’t have to rush through things! :) I’m looking forward to lots of r&r, good eats, and watching everyone open their gifts. :)

  90. Knittingdancer (Teresa) / Dec 13 2011

I am looking forward to going to church on Christmas morning and singing Christmas carols.

  91. Elise / Dec 13 2011

  92. krystina / Dec 13 2011

I’m looking forward to seeing my sister!

  93. Sarahliz / Dec 13 2011

This book looks great. I’ve been crocheting for awhile and would love to learn to knit. Vintage-style patterns make it all the more enticing.

I’m looking forward to seeing my boyfriend’s family this Christmas. It’s been too long since we’ve seen them and I’m eager to spend Christmas day with his nephews. Kids make it so much more fun.

Looking forward to relaxing with my sisters!

    Great book! I love knitting!!

  114. Corvus / Dec 14 2011

I got a new job this year, that moved me to a new city. I have no family nearby, and am working Christmas anyway- ten hours the night of Christmas eve, on call all Christmas day (and I will get called in), ten hours the night of Christmas. So the holiday itself? Holds a bit more dread to me than usual this year. I did the same thing for Thanksgiving, and ended up spending 30 of 36 hours at work- ouch. I have no plans to celebrate Christmas, as I’ll need to spend every moment not working, sleeping.

But next Sunday I’m gonna have a cookie exchange with all my new friends. And that is going to be freaking delicious.

  115. Eliza / Dec 14 2011

I’m looking forward to win the book and knit my sister a wunderful present. So she will forever admire my skills….

  135. Ming / Dec 15 2011

    Hello!
I just discovered your blog through the “Blogs I read” list in Elegant Musings. I used to take sewing classes and stopped a long time ago, and only recently started sewing again. So I decided to look for tips on the Internet and I really liked your blog (although I only benefit from the sewing parts, since I don’t live in the US and couldn’t knit for my life).
So thank you for the tips and the cheer!
    Ming

I’m looking forward to cooking a Christmas dinner with my mom, something we haven’t done together since I left home 22 years ago. I’m also relishing going thrifting with her after Christmas- apparently the days between Christmas and New Years can be a thrifting bonanza because so many people drop off stuff at the donation centers in order to qualify for the year’s deduction on their tax returns!

  144. Jill / Dec 15 2011

Hmmm, I love thinking about this kind of thing…I’ve been on the road for work almost a couple months straight (thanksgiving week off) so I am really, really looking forward to 1) being at home with my husband and dog, 2) having my in-laws and step-daughter out to visit, 3) seeing friends I’ve been neglecting, and 4) last but not least, hopefully squeezing in some sewing time before I have to pack my bags again!
