First Hair Set, Post Cut

Hey gals!  As you know I cut my hair last week and I still love it so much better now than when it was longer.  But I imagine that’s the way it is with any new cut.

I thought I’d share a few images of my first hair set with you all today.

I showered on Saturday morning, like any other day, and went about my morning routine.  I got around to setting (ie curling) my hair in foam rollers around 11am, when it was a bit damp still.  I spritzed on a setting lotion to get it damp as I was working; since I work slow I had to keep spraying it on my hair, and even again when I had to re-curl some sections.

I should now tell you…. this is really only the 3rd or 4th time I’ve set my hair with foam rollers… ever!

I then went about my day (indoors only) which meant working on Project CPR’s Vashon Sweater during the day.

I used a medium curler (the pink ones) at the top and sides of my head, and I only used the smaller size roller (the black ones) at the nape of my neck.  I didn’t really have any rhyme or reason for this, besides running low on the pink curler size.  I was going for a 50’s Grace Kelly-swept back look so I wanted to be sure that I had the larger size curler up on top of my head to attempt to get some body in my normally-flat hair.

After getting ready (for the most part) in the evening, 7 hours after setting my hair, I took the curlers out.  This is how curled my hair ended up:

This is sooo not the best picture of me, but it’s the only one that isn’t terribly blurry.

Anyhow, you can see the curls look like Shirley Temple curls and are really tight to my head.  Much brushing ensued afterwards.  I brushed my hair close to 10 minutes trying to get the right curl pattern that I was happy with and taming out the fuzz.

I was graciously invited by Tasha (of By Gum By Golly) & Mel to their home for a Christmas party, in which dressing up was welcome.  This made my little heart skip a beat as I had this 50’s surplice bodice dress that never gets worn since it’s a bit too fancy for work & everyday occasions.  Tasha’s party was the perfect occasion as there were other wonderful vintage loving gals who dressed up as well.

Left to Right: Megan, yours truly, Leilani, and Tasha.  I love how we’re all sparkling due to Leilani’s sequined bodice.

Megan is totally dwarfing me, but really…. most people do anyhow and it doesn’t bother me like it used to.  You guys now have an excellent perspective now of how much of a shortie I am. heh

Can we just take a look at how lovely these gals all are?!  I have to admit I think Tasha’s dress still has me reeling at its fabulousness; the bodice details are simply superb.

Luckily Miss Meg had sneaked some photos of my hair at the party and she was kind enough to send me a few more.

And the other side (although a bit blurry):

Sadly, the only other pictures I have is the aftereffects of the set from my Project CPR Recap post.  When I came home that night, I washed my face and crashed in bed; I didn’t do anything special with my hair, just slept on it like any other night.

This was taken around 4pm on Sunday.  I brushed my hair at this point which made the curls fall even more, but I continued to brush it until the curls made a nice formation around my face, once again.  It lacked the *omph* and body that it had the day before and there is less curls around my crown.  But I’m quite happy with it, since most of the time what happens the day after are crazy, rouge curls that refused to stay curled.  My set must have been pretty good to hold some curl on day 2, like this.

The one thing I’d like to try out next are pin curls.  The foam curlers are great for setting during the day, but it’s such a pain (literally) to sleep in these foam rollers overnight.  I’d love to see how the pin curls would hold up: both sleeping on the pin curls during the night and how they look the next day.  But they are going to take some practice for sure as I can barely get a decent looking victory roll.

Has anyone tried pin curls and have some good tips for a newbie like me?

Well, that’s all I have to share for you today.  Hope you are all having a lovely day.
