I got sucked in….

I don’t think I would ever be writing these words on my blog, but I completely got sucked into a video game last night.

Have any of you heard of the game Uncharted?

Felix bought Uncharted 2 last year (or two years ago perhaps) and from the first 5 minutes of watching this thing I was sucked in.  It’s like part movie-part game.  The quality is great and seriously guys… it’s like watching a younger, scrappier Indiana Jones (but not quite as bookish as Dr. Jones).

There’s lots of ancient discovery and puzzles to figure out which I think is super interesting and Felix on the other hand plays it for that reason but also for the action-fighting stuff.  During the actual game-play portions, I got in some good quality knitting time.

Felix is now playing Uncharted 3 and it’s bad…. I won’t let him play without me and during the actual game-play parts I can’t even peel my eyes away to knit.

Much to Felix’s chagrin (I’m sure) I’m actively telling him what to do and squealing and giving him a head’s up to where guys are positioned to shoot him.  It’s so bad….  Half of the time my palms are all sweaty, I’m that engrossed.  I’m doing lots of *sighing* due to the intensity of the game, but I can’t stop watching!

This is really the only game I’ve ever been this sucked into…  I really don’t even like games…

Due to my temporary obsession, I got absolutely nothing done this evening!  I had planned to work on some sewing projects and also planned to get a few other odds and ends done around the house…but no  I sat and watched Uncharted 3 for at least 3 hours.  :|  I wish I could say I regretted it, but I’m such a sucker for watching this game!  There must be something wrong with me.  hehe

Tomorrow Felix is going to a PechaKucha event so hopefully I’ll be able to get something done… Wish me luck!  heh

Your post reminds me of playing video games with my brother when we were little. I was always jumping around, nervous and anxious, telling him where all the bad guys were. And, that was back when games were all pixel-y and just find-the-princess plot lines, not elaborate stories like they are now. I say, enjoy it like a movie or a good book.

  2. Yes! This!! I like to watch too! :D Some of my favourites are Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout 3 (this one is especially good, because the in-game radio plays lovely old music like Billie Holiday), Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, the Halo games, and lots more. He’s currently about 2 discs into Final Fantasy XIII, but he hasn’t felt like playing in a while and it’s driving me crazy!! I want to know the ending!
I’m rubbish at playing these games myself. My reactions are really slow, and if s**t hits the fan I panic! Example: I started playing Dragon Age. It was going well, I’d been playing about 15 minutes when I got a mission to go into some caves and clear out the giant spiders. Erm, I don’t really like spiders. But the story couldn’t move on until I did it. So in the caves I went. I killed a few spiders, and then out of no where a spider dropped on my characters head!!! I jumped so much that both of my hands left the keyboard and mouse by about 6 inchs. Yeah, I didn’t want to play any more. My boyfriend thought it was hilarious and still laughs about it.
I also like Minecraft, it doesn’t have a story but it’s fun to watch him build and find stuff. I get some really good knitting time too, though like you I have to stop if it gets *really* interesting :)

So funny! It does look fun though. I’ve never been a huge ‘gamer’ or anything, but I do love puzzles and mysteries. In fact I’ve been spending quite a bit of free time in the last week playing a mystery and hidden object game on my iPad, if it makes you feel any better. ;)

  4. Haha! This is totally me. Seriously, that is a major passtime my hubs and I share—he does the fighting and stressful parts and I help out with the puzzles and generally keeping track of what’s going on. I very rarely ever play a video-game independently, but when he has a good RPG on the go… Uncharted didn’t really do it for me (although my hubs did play the first two for sure), but right now I’m definitely sucked in to Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. And don’t even get me started on Dragon Age. Or *shudder* World of Warcraft)

Uncharted 3 really is quite cinematic. There are a lot of times where it feels very much like you’re controlling (and watching) a movie.

Also? One of my Christmas gifts to Liz many years ago was me, canceling my WoW account. I printed out the “Account Cancelled” page and put a bow on it.

My husby is a gamer and I have watched my fair share of games. I especially like the uncharted. Did you know that Drake is based on the Character Malcolm Renyold from the TV series Firefly? If you haven’t watched firefly you may want to give it a try it’s so wonderful!
