Stitchcraft Freebie: Zebra Striped Snood

Instead of another jumper, I thought for this week’s free knitting pattern I’d share a lovely little accessory, the zebra-striped snood from the January 1953 Stitchcraft magazine.

The pattern lists this as a shower/bath cap yet this lovely lady is pictured outside her front door, fully dressed and sans bathroom.  But I think it’s just called a snood.  Am I right you guys?

Anyhow… Isn’t it lovely?!  I really love that it’s done up in angora, but then again I think I like everything that is made with angora.  This pattern uses a black and white color scheme, which is classic, but if I were making it I think I’d make it in a navy and white angora stripe.

Since summertime is slowly approaching, I think a cotton blend yarn in pink and white or sky blue and white would look nice and cheery too.

I think this pattern may look more complicated than it really is.  The only ‘fancy’ technique you would need is ‘picking up stitches’ to work the solid black section of the crown as well as the underside at the nape of the neck.

I hope you like my pick for this week.  As always drop me a line in the comments if you’d like to see anything in particular and I’ll try and accomodate you.

Happy Wednesday!
