Weldon’s Fair Isle: Jersey for the Junior Miss

Hey Ladies.  Today I have the last ladies’ fair isle jumper for you from Weldon’s booklet called Fair Isles for the Family.

In the booklet there are two patterns for a guy, 1 pair of gloves, and a few patterns for kids.  Unless someone asks for one of these types of patterns in the comments, I’m going to move on to other ladies’ patterns next week.

The first thing that I thought when I saw this jumper (besides how cute it is) was “Wow, that looks really hard”. I’m sure the seasoned fair isle pro would love this… and for everyone else I think it’s a lovely jumper to aspire to make.

I wish this were a color-image… but what I gather from the directions is that the main background color is a pink-beige and the rest of the jersey is knit in neutral colors (dark brown, fawn, grey, white, and natural).  I’m imagining that with so much work involved in this piece that the designer wanted it to match with any color of bottoms.  I myself would like to see some hunter green bits, light blues, or light yellows.

This jersey is knit with a yarn slightly larger than a fingering weight in which you get 7 sts per inch (instead of 8 for fingerings) and 8 rows to an inch (instead of 10 rows with fingering).  The size is for a 33-35 inch bust, but I think one could easily make this larger by adding a pattern repeat or two as needed.

What do you guys think of this one?  It looks like a classic fair isle if I ever saw one…

Again, if you guys want to see some other patterns for ‘gents, kids, etc. in fair isle be sure to leave me a comment.  :)
